Limited Company or Sole Trader
Generally it is easier to start a business as a sole trader and maybe change to a Limited Company at a later date. As a sole trader you need to register with the Inland Revenue - click the link to apply on line. Company Name
It is not necessary to register your company name but it is important to check that nobody else in your type of business and trading in the same territory are already using the name that you choose.

Legal Issues
Most businesses can start immediately without the need to get licensing or approval.
For businesses involved in food preparation you may need a Food Hygiene Certificate or an inspection of premises before starting.
